Willow Park Fisheries are situated out the back of Ash Nr Guildford. Its mainly a match fishing water with massive amounts of matches being fished week in week out. The ponds have been resized after major road works a few years ago and the building of a new dual carriageway. Although there are loads of carp in all the ponds the large pond has by far the greater stock. The Carp we’ve had have normally been well into double figures with fish between 15lb and 20lb not uncommon at all. There are loads of smaller ones to, and they tend to roam around in bunches, if you start catching smaller ones the chances are that’s all that are around at that time. There are meant to be over five hundred carp in the water which is about 7 acres (although I’m guessing about its size) I’ve not got any leaflets or documentation of it! There are estimated to be about thirty twenties and we know several people who caught plenty of em’ even right under my nose, bastards! Anyway we’ve fished the place around a dozen or so times over the last couple of seasons, from four nighters to just evening to early morning stints. We do prefer obviously to get the whole night in as this place can really produce some good results. The best spots we’ve found tend to be on the road bank in the evenings, the match guys have left the place stacked with feed close in so the carp come visiting and half a dozen in an hour isn’t unusual at all. We’ve fished most of the way around the pond and found it to produce all over. I like to arrive at the water and have a good look normally a large part of the decision where to fish is because of the weather and the direction of the wind. The fish don’t seem to pay much attention to the wind whatsoever! I’ve sat there with the bivvy hovering six inches off the floor on the guy ropes ‘cause the winds blowing so sodding hard and caught bugger all. But someone over the other side is hauling them in. Still that’s this fishing lark. They do see some real action at weekends especially in the summer. But you can book in advance 01252 325867 and let them know how long for and how many etc. You do get locked in as well so no need to worry about your car getting busted while your in the land of nod. There are loads of matches and these are a pain in the arse, especially if you like to do a couple of nights at a time. This place is well worth visiting even from afar as they do day tickets and some real big hauls are well possible. The water should definitely be considered easy and well worth a look, although we’ve fished in a large group of five or six and all but blanked it style! Back to the matches, these unfortunately aren’t just confined to the smaller ponds and it’s not odd to see fifty people turn up to fish it, or more!

The matches are frequent and you do need to be aware of them if you are fishing because you can only fish where they aren’t pegged to go. Watch out! We’ve been told we could fish and been sat there happily when a baliff sticks his head round the bivvy door last thing at night and tells you there’s a match at seven the next morning and you’ve got to move before they get there. This has happened and this was AFTER I especially asked where to fish because I was well aware of the match problem. They didn’t give a toss and really you have no where to complain to. They are running a massive and very productive fishery which means that fifty guys fishing a match is more important than my twenty quid for a nights fishing. Still I’ve gotten over that now and we do go back still. Some of the swims aren’t match fished which means they are usually available for the night but they are high up from the water. which can be a bit of a head do in the middle of the night when you’ve got a screamer and two hundred cc’s of adrenaline rushing through your body. But for the most part they aren’t a problem. There are a few ‘stars’ fishing here so look out for cheerful ginger tosser, Simply Reds’ Mick Hucknal.A.K.A one of the baliffs. He’s a miserable bastard on a bicycle who is completely unable to have a decent argument and couldn’t understand why I was pissed off when asked to move at the last minute. Enough of that, anyway it’s a good spot, well worth a visit.(honestly he is the spiting image of old Mick).
